Atlanta Contemporary Art Center is dedicated to excellence, experimentation and education in all forms of contemporary art. Atlanta Contemporary Art Center (the Contemporary) has been a defining force in Atlantas cultural life since 1973; having been formed initially as Nexus Contemporary Art Center. What began as an artists-run cooperative has evolved into an organizational model for contemporary art centers throughout the nation. The Contemporary is a multidisciplinary arts center that contributes to Atlantas arts scene by exposing the work of local, regional, national, and international artists to the Greater Atlanta community. Through our programming areas and educational outreach, the Contemporary strives to provide a service that is unique in Atlanta and the Southeast. Exhibitions With a number of exhibitions and other presentations throughout the year, the Contemporarys gallery is one of the Souths most dynamic spaces for artistic exchange and experimental thinking. Exhibitions explore current ideas, attitudes and new directions in contemporary artistic expression. The exhibition schedule offers a diverse mix of solo and group exhibitions presenting a broad range of local, national and international works. Esteemed by the international arts community, the Contemporary has earned a pivotal role in Atlantas cultural landscape by making contemporary art accessible and by encouraging its creation. Education A cornerstone of the Contemporarys mission is to inform diverse audiences that contemporary art encompasses multi-sensory forms of expression in which aesthetic, cultural and social meanings are exposed and debated. Symposia, workshops, lectures, panel discussions and exchanges of ideas and opinions accompany each exhibition. Artist's talks and performances incorporate audience participation and employ interactive strategies to stimulate critical thinking and cultural activism.
