About George S May
Born in 1890, George S. May had to cope with the fluctuating economy of the early 1900s. As a freelance consultant on a variety of short-term jobs, he managed to attract a full time job, only to get laid off as the economy slowed again.
May began a letter writing campaign in the early twenties. His goal? Find work. Not just the sales jobs he’d been developing his business skills with. No, George S. May wanted to be in the thick of things. He wanted management consulting assignments. He wanted clients, not bosses. His letter-writing marathon paid off when the company that would grow into the Sunbeam Corporation hired him. That proved to be all that George S. May needed to enable him to form a corporation of his own: the George S. May Company.
In addition to creating how own thriving company, George S. May staged a number of golf tournaments at his country club, and gained acclaim as one of golf's most prominent promoters.
How could George S. May have had more of an impact? By his death in 1962, May had reshaped the golfing world and virtually invented business management consulting.
