Red Barn Lavender Farm Lotions and Products
Red Barn Lavender uses the lavender essential oil and hydrosol,
distilled from their own lavender plants, to make soaps and lotions
This provides the Lavender Lotions and Soaps with lavender’s natural
qualities. Their lavender plants are grown on their farm in Ferndale,
Washington using no sprays, pesticides or other inorganic treatments.At Red Barn, Lavender essential oils are distilled out of the flowers
using a so-called ‘dry steam’ method. Using this method the plant
material is not immersed in water and boiled during distillation. The
lavender flower heads are sealed into a large stainless steel drum.
Steam is slowly piped into the drum under low pressure to keep the
temperatures as low as possible. This method produces the highest
quality essential oil and hydrosol.The steam, carrying the water soluble parts of the lavender plant
including the oils, cools and condenses, separating into hydrosol and
the essential oil.Lavender oil has been used for centuries as an antiseptic, burn and scar
treatment, insect repellant, and aromatic ingredient for perfumes,
cosmetics, soaps, lotions, and household products. The oil is also known
for its calming properties. It is used in massage treatments, and to
promote restful sleep.Lavender hydrosol has a minute amount of essential oil plus all
the water-soluble parts of the lavender plant. It contains a diluted
form of the same qualities and can be used in much the same way as the
essential oil.
