SLTI carries out two kinds of projects: translation and adaptation of tests covering a variety of content or fields, and the development of tests of language proficiency.

SLTI has translated over 450 educational assessments for states and other national organizations, as well as ancillary materials associated with these tests. SLTI has more experience translating standardized tests and state assessments than any other organization. The translation of tests and related materials is the only kind of translation that SLTI does. All translators are high competent professional translators. Because SLTI makes translation tests for the federal government, it is able to identify the top translators in each language to work on test translation projects. In the process, SLTI trains them in item writing techniques. These translators are then available to translate other standardized measures from English to other languages.
