The new cooperation between Bladehammer Music (Netherlands) and Zip Records (US)
The record company Bladehammer Music and San Francisco based Zip Records are announcing their new strategic partnership. This unique venture became effective on October 3, 2011.
The Amsterdam company, Bladehammer Music is headed by Gerry van der Zwaard and Menno Timmerman. The two have spearheaded the careers of several successful Dutch artists and at present, among others, band Kensington and singers Birgit Schuurman and Nicole Bus are their prime focus.
Zip Records has been on the same path in the US since 1998, releasing multiple albums by over 50 artists such as The Chevelles (Australia), thirst (UK) and Smash Palace (US). OF special note, Zip Records has licensed the recent albums for the US by Dutch artists Birgit Schuurman, a balladeer and Kensington (October 11, 2011). Now also formally launched in the Netherlands as Zip Records Holland, the benefits of a cross-border cooperation between Bladehammer and Zip became too obvious to ignore.
The long anticipated US debut album by band Kensington will kick off this new partnership. The album entitled “Borders” will be out on October 11 and distributed throughout the US and Canada by SONY/RED. As part of the release launch, a one of a kind show, headlined by Kensington, happens on November 4 at the Cutting Room in New York. On the same bill will be Birgit (songs from her new solo touring show!) and 2010 “Grote Prijs” winner Nicole Bus (new album out October 14 on EMI-Holland).
This will be the only opportunity to see these well known Dutch artists in the US this year (until money grows on trees) but accessible anytime is the first Kensington single “Let Go”. It can be seen on youtube or directly on the Zip Records web site: www.ziprecords.com
The future cooperation between Zip records and Bladehammer Music will enable each label to better take advantage of opportunities made possible by the new age of record marketing and promotion. The intertwining of the respective Dutch and US releases by both labels will likely be the wave of the future for independent record companies everywhere.
Art Herman, of Zip Records says “the release of the Kensington album Borders in the US is the perfect starting point for the labels’ cooperation. At the same time as this US activity starts, our sales and distribution agreement for Zip Records in the Benelux countries (through Rough Trade) will be greatly benefited by the knowledge and experience that Bladehammer can contribute regarding the Dutch/Belgium market. A novel and logical venture this will be.”
The first Zip Records album released in Holland was the well received “Correspondence Music Vol. 1″ by Correspondence (August 2011). Expected later in 2011 is “Fire in the Hole” by Rebecka Tornqvist and Sara Isaksson (Sweden) and supported by an extensive tour in the Benelux in 2012, the debut European release by the world popular Jeffrey Gaines (US) will occur.
