Dental Implant as a Solution for Missing Teeth
If you’re missing teeth, you know the hassles that are associated with those gaps in your smile. Not only can chewing be uncomfortable, forcing you to deny yourself your favorite crunchy foods, you may also have experienced the social stigma attached to missing teeth in our society.
At Moore Family Dentistry in Pelham, AL, we have solutions to your problem. We’ll work with you and discuss your goals, needs, and budget to craft the ideal treatment plan for you.
Two of our most popular solutions for replacing missing teeth are dentures and dental implants. We can even combine the two – securing dentures in place using dental implants!
Attractive and Comfortable Modern Dentures
Often when we discuss dentures with a patient, they become resistant, imagining the dentures they remember from their grandparents’ bedside tables. Once we show them modern dentures and discuss how much dentures have evolved over the years, they feel much better about this practical and affordable option.
Today’s dentures are designed to look lifelike and fit comfortably. Each tooth is crafted individually and then placed into a realistic base one at a time to allow for the variation that occurs in nature. Once your dentures are in place, chances are good that nobody will ever know the difference!
The improvements made in the fit of dentures allow them to fit securely in your mouth, reducing the risk of sore spots and those embarrassing slips that were once part of the denture-wearing experience.
Dentures are typically covered by most insurance plans. We’ll be happy to review your benefits and help you determine your coverage.
The Dental Implant Advantages
Dental implants were introduced several years ago, but advances in technology have turned this restoration system into the gold standard for tooth replacement.
A dental implant is a small titanium piece, kind of like a screw, that is implanted into your jawbone. Over time, the implant actually integrates with your bone through a process called osseointegration, making this restoration more permanent than just about any other option.
The implant is then fitted with a piece called an abutment, which holds your new tooth in place. Dr. Moore is skilled at designing beautiful crowns to fit over your implant. These crowns are so lifelike that even you might have difficulty distinguishing between your crown and your natural teeth.
While dental implants do cost more than dentures, they also have benefits that dentures simply can’t provide. Because the implant is placed directly into the jawbone, just like a natural tooth root, it works like a root to stimulate regrowth and maintenance of the bone tissue at a cellular level. Without the root or the implant, growth stops and the tissue eventually atrophies, giving you the sunken appearance so often associated with missing teeth.
If you are concerned about the cost of dental implants, we are also happy to discuss a hybrid option that combines the benefits of both implants and dentures. We can create dentures that are designed to snap into dental implants, giving you the permanence and security of implants with the lower cost of dentures.
