Pet Custody

By: Joan Bundy Law  07/22/2014

As society has become more mobile and people have moved farther away from friends and family, the importance of companion animals has grown. More than 80 percent of pet owners now consider non-human animals living in their household “family members” as much as any blood relative. About 70 percent regard them as nonbiological “children.” When couples split, one of the most contentious, emotional issues to be resolved can be who keeps the dog, cat, gerbil, or other family pet(s). If you are contemplating a divorce or legal separation, or are otherwise concerned about the custody and care of your beloved pet(s), you would be wise to consult with an experienced Arizona animal law attorney who is compassionate and savvy about animals and the law.
