How do you know you are dealing with a CTA? A CTA is required to register with the US government's Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) before they can offer their trading services out to the public. A CTA must go through a background check with fingerprints. In addition a CTA must also submit a disclosure document. A disclosure document contains background information about the CTA, an explanation of the trading style, an explanation of costs charged by the CTA and an audited performance of trading accounts. This disclosure document is submitted to the National Futures Association (NFA) and the CTA is required to update disclosure documents at least every 9 months.
