Misaligned teeth are a problem for many adults and children. But they are not just a nuisance that detracts from the appearance of your smile. Crooked teeth can also lead to oral hygiene issues, which in turn lead to more serious dental health problems like gum disease. When we consider orthodontic options for you or your children, we can look at both full and partial braces. Dr. Cho has many years of experience in providing superior orthodontic treatment and will help you choose which type is most suitable for your needs. Full and Partial Braces Full braces are appropriate for either older children or adults. We suggest full braces when alignment problems affect all teeth in either or both upper and lower jaws. Treatment with full braces is followed by retainers that should be worn after treatment to hold the teeth in the correct position. Partial braces only affect a few teeth and are ideal for situations where you only need to correct alignment problems in one part of the mouth. This may include realigning a few teeth that are out of their proper position or making room for emerging adult teeth. Another situation where partial braces may be needed is before placement of a permanent restoration like a dental implant or bridge. We may also recommend partial braces for a young child to realign some teeth to prepare for full braces later, or to correct protruding teeth to keep the situation from becoming worse. This allows for a more complete, long-lasting solution to orthodontic issues. Clear Braces for a Natural Appearance If aesthetics are a concern, clear braces may be the right choice for you. Clear braces are discreet and create a more natural-looking appearance than traditional braces. Instead of using obvious metal brackets, which are very obtrusive and noticeable, we use ceramic or plastic brackets that are either clear or a shade close to the natural color of your teeth. We also use tooth-colored wires to create a uniform appearance. Unlike removable orthodontic devices, clear braces are secured to your teeth through the duration of your treatment. They use the same principle to straighten teeth as traditional braces, so they are just as effective, but far less noticeable.
