Dr. Kenneth Cho Dentistry
A tooth extraction is generally a last-resort procedure to replace teeth that are unrecoverable. When a tooth extraction becomes a necessary procedure, it is critical to receive the treatment as soon as possible.
We understand that the idea of having a tooth extracted can be a bit overwhelming. But we’d like to put your mind at ease – Dr. Kenneth Cho and our team have extensive experience with tooth extraction and will handle your treatment with the utmost care.
Reasons for Tooth Extraction
At Dr. Kenneth Cho Dentistry, our team emphasizes the importance of preventative dentistry to preserve your healthy teeth whenever possible. But situations do occur that make tooth extraction necessary:
Cracks or fractures of a tooth below the gum line
Severe abscess that cannot be treated with a root canal
Placement of full or partial denture placement
Alignment issues or preparation for orthodontic treatment
Impacted wisdom teeth
We are committed to providing a warm and friendly environment, and our professional team will go out of their way to treat you with kindness and respect for your concerns. Our first priority is to do everything necessary to help you remain calm and comfortable during the procedure.
Removing Impacted Wisdom Teeth
One frequent issue that demands a tooth extraction is the presence of impacted wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth most commonly erupt during the late teens and early twenties, when they make contact with surrounding teeth. This process may cause the wisdom tooth to erupt or remain impacted under the surface.
A partially erupted wisdom tooth may be a hotspot for bacteria to grow because food can get trapped around the gum line. Food particles that remain in the mouth can eventually lead to periodontal disease and tooth decay.
If the extent of the impaction is serious, it may be necessary to make an opening in the gum. We may also need to remove a portion of the tooth enamel to make it easier to access the gums.
Proper dental care is essential to your health and well-being, and our goal is to do everything we can to ensure that you enjoy a lifetime of excellent oral health. We believe that patient education is important, and we will not proceed with treatment until we know that you understand what the problem is and why extraction is necessary.
Please contact our La Habra dental office if you would like more information about tooth extraction.
