Tai chi chuan is many things to many people. It is a Chinese expression, which can be translated as: “Ultimate Absolute Fist”. It can be therapeutic and at the same time energetic. It can be absolutely precise and also open to broad interpretation. It uses softness to overcome hardness. It is a meditation while also being a martial art. Anyone can learn and benefit from it, but very, very few master it. But one thing it clearly offers is an opportunity to improve one's self. Recent studies by major organizations have discovered tai chi to provide immense health benefits. While tai chi is a very old practice, our understanding of it is new and ongoing. Energetics, therapeutics, dynamic movement, meditation and self-defense are all addressed by the practice of Tai Chi.
