At Classic Dental Smiles in Rancho Bernardo, you no longer need to worry about the appearance of your smile. The benefits of a beautiful and healthy smile go beyond the dental world and into your everyday life. A great smile improves self-esteem, creates positive energy, and helps to elevate personal confidence. One way to achieve a great smile is with the use of porcelain veneers which can give worn out and damaged teeth a new esthetic appearance.
What are Veneers?
Veneers are typically made of porcelain and can be made in virtually any shade of white. Custom shades can be applied to help match surrounding teeth or make teeth look more natural. While crowns cover the whole tooth, veneers typically cover the front half of the tooth only, like a contact lens. They can be as thin as 0.3mm or as thick as we need them to be, depending on the outcome that is desired. While they technically can be put on all teeth, they typically cover teeth that show in a smile, i.e. front teeth. Veneers can also be used to change the shape of a tooth, by covering existing fractures or chips that may be visible.
A consultation with Dr. Brian Chan can help you decide whether veneers are an appropriate solution for your dental needs. There are a number of different ways that veneers can be placed and it all depends on what outcome we are trying to achieve. For multiple veneers, an impression may need to be taken and the final shape of the teeth created on a physical model for everyone to look at. That way we can see the potential final outcome before any physical work is done to the teeth. During the working appointment, the teeth are prepared and in our office (see the crowns/CEREC page), the final porcelain veneers can be created and permanently placed. For those that want extra time in evaluating the restorations, the veneers can be temporarily cemented and a second appointment created in the future for permanent placement after patient approval.
While there are many ways the process can unfold, the final outcome will be one that will exceed your expectations and lead to a better smile, healthier teeth, and a more confident you!
