Bio-cranial was founded in 1984 by a UK based osteopath named Dr. Robert Boyd. His research lead to the conclusion that everyone had been “injured” at birth (and before) and these injuries impacted dramatically on the level at which our bodies function throughout life.
He discovered the movement and position of the cranial bones of the head (22) was essential for having full-function of the nervous system (brain and nerves).
The actual procedure consists of the patient laying on their back, the practitioner picks up the head and moves around the patient and positions him/her self in a very exact position to apply a pressure to the back of the patient’s head. There is NO jerking or sudden movement. The patient will feel a firm but gentle stretch in the muscles on the side of the neck toward the shoulder. The patient will feel a tension in the muscles, yet there should be very little to no pressure felt in the spine part of the neck. The muscle tension felt by the patient will vary according to the hidden stress in the patient’s musculature. The patient will sometimes feel a warm relaxing sensation in the body, and many times they will feel their nose open, stating often that they can breath a lot easier. The comments most people make immediately is, “Wow, that’s amazing!”
It must be emphasized, however, that the Bio- Craniopathic System does not treat disorders or diseases by names or symptoms, but insists on treating the WHOLE person by addressing the underlying TOTAL stress and tension of the NERVOUS SYSTEM.
Bio-cranial therapy corrects dysfunction not disease or disease names. It is one of the most holistic systems in existence. We recognize that names of symptoms mean something to most patients and below are a partial list that bio-cranial has helped:
Chronic non-specific pain
Headaches (inc. migraine)
Leg and arm pain (radiating pain)
Neck and back pain
Post- surgical pain
Allergy Sensitivity (food and environmental)
