Correct Flows from Room to Room

Renovate your house so people movement flows correctly from room to room.
For example, a couple bought a home with an existing room addition which was only accessible by going from the front door through the library, then the family room. A more correct flow would be to do what we did to this home, which is to extend the hallway so it accesses all the bedrooms. In that way, the addition looks like it is not an addition, but part of the house.
The most common error I’ve seen is people having to go through an existing bedroom to get to a new bedroom addition. This, essentially, turns the first bedroom into a large hallway with, perhaps, a bed in it.
Change the design so that you take a 3 foot wide slice out of the first bedroom to make a hallway. This makes the first bedroom a little smaller, but it is correct.
In our recent remodel, we also used the closet space next to a small master bathroom to enlarge the bath. We added a closet at the opposite end, taking another small bite out of the bedroom we had narrowed to make a hallway. The first bedroom is still an acceptable size.
In order to further accommodate the flows of this particular house, we took out a kitchen wall which opened the kitchen into the study, and put wide arched doorways from study to family room and from study to the dining room. Now that the flows between rooms are freer, there is a sense of order and more space. Call me to see what we can do to improve the traffic flows in your home.
