Your Sprinkler System Not Sprinkling Properly?

In this article I will cover different sprinkler system problems so look for the sub-heading that best fits your problem.
INSUFFICIENT OR NO WATER FROM SPRINKLER HEADS
The reason for this is that there is something clogged in the head, the point where the water actually sprays out.
What you need to do is take all the heads off. This can be done with a sprinkler head tool, socket of the correct size or a pair of pliers. Turn on the sprinkler system without the heads to flush out the sprinkler lines.
Next, turn the water down, at the valve, so there is only about 6 inches of water spraying up. Clean the heads of small rocks, dirt, grass, bugs, etc. You can clean out the small hole in the head with a paper clip and the 6 inch spray of water. Okay, so put the heads back on one at a time turning the water down more as needed.
SPRINKLER HEADS GONE OR POPPED OFF
Sometimes the heads get knocked off by a lawn mower or by someone kicking or tripping on the head.
In order to fix this you need to dig out around where the sprinkler head was. You will now see a pipe sticking up from a horizontal pipe and if the pipe is threaded and you can unscrew it from the horizontal pipe, do so.
You can now put on a new “Sprinkler riser pipe” and “Sprinklerhead” that you can get at any hardware store.
If you have any problems with this, you now need to call me as it will take some knowledge.
SYSTEM HAS LEAKS COMING FROM THE GROUND
This problem is a bit harder to fix.
Dig out the area where the leak is and determine what kind of pipe and leak you are dealing with. It could be a plastic or a metal pipe.
If it is plastic you can cut out the section that is leaking and take it to the hardware store and get parts and some glue to put it back together.
If it is metal then you can sometimes get a “saddle patch” to attach around the pipe at the leak. It does not have to stop it 100 percent, as it will only leak when the system is on, but it should not leak very much if at all.
If it’s any problem call me.
SYSTEM IS AUTOMATED BUT DOES NOT COME ON AUTOMATICALLY
This problem could be one of several:
A. No power to timer – Get power to timer.
B. Fuse blown on timer – Get another like fuse and replace old fuse.
C. Wires not hooked up properly – Check that 2 wires come from each sprinkler valve and go to the timer, one wire goes to the common terminal and one wire goes to one of the numbered terminals.
D. Wires cut off in the ground – Check the wires from the timer to the valves. Replace any that are bad.
E. None of the above have worked? You need either a new timer or new sprinkler valves.
