Pelvic relaxation is the weakening of the pelvic floor muscles and ligaments that often occurs after childbirth. Other factors such as aging, constipation, chronic cough and obesity may also increase the risk of this condition and lead to bladder control problems, urinary tract infections and pressure in the vaginal area. Pelvic relaxation can be treated through pelvic floor exercises, insertion of a support device called a pessary, reparative surgery or hysterectomy.
In the past, techniques to surgically repair vaginal relaxation had a relatively high failure rate. Dr. Navi uses recently developed mesh “hammocks” to dramatically improve the durability and effectiveness of these repairs, as well as restoring normal sexual function.
