When your clutch isn’t working properly it does not necessarily mean you need a new one. We will always diagnose the problem for free. Minor problems are more often related to the hydraulics. Advanced Transmission Reviews Check Out Our Customer Reviews How do you know if you have a problem with your clutch? Our TrueTest™ Inspection will tell you what needs to be done. The most common symptoms are: Slipping: This is when you step on the gas and the engine RPM goes up but the vehicle isn’t going as fast as the engine. When this happens you should get it checked right away. In most cases it will not be long before the vehicle will not move at all. The transmission is hard to shift: This is a clutch problem however it is probably not the clutch itself. This is most commonly caused by the hydraulics which is the connection between the clutch pedal and the clutch and it is much easier to repair than the entire clutch. In the event that you do need a clutch replacement the best solution is a clutch kit. The clutch kit includes a pressure plate, clutch disc, a release bearing (sometimes called a throw-out bearing) and a pilot bearing. It is necessary to resurface the flywheel so the new clutch disc has a new, flat surface to mate to. In most cases this is everything you will need. There are many clutch kits available. Some are great. Some are okay. Some will not last. At Advanced Transmission Centers, we know and use the best kits. They are trouble free and sometimes work better and last longer than the one that was in your car or truck when it was new. Hydraulics, as they relate to the clutch in today’s cars and trucks, has to do with how the force of stepping on the clutch pedal gets to the clutch. We can identify a hydraulics issue with some simple diagnostics, and, if damaged, hydraulics should be repaired as soon as possible because it can cause damage to your transmission. This repair will cost much less than the major transmission repair it will cause if ignored.
