Sun’s out, teeth out! Summer has arrived and it has us all smiling and happy. And it’s no surprise -a little sunshine can help boost your mood! … But is it good for your teeth? The answer is YES. And the link between your teeth and the sun is Vitamin D! Vitamin D, often obtained from the sun, is essential for a healthy body and strong bones. But vitamin D can also help reduce the risk of cavities in infants and younger children. Studies have shown that children with cavities usually also have low Vitamin D levels. The good news is that you don’t need a lot of sun exposure to make sure you’re getting enough vitamin D. All you need is between 10 to 30 minutes of sun exposure. It is recommended between 10 am and 3 pm, and to up to 3 times a week. Looks like we have another great reason to go to the beach this summer! You should not take vitamin D to replace medication or treatment of dental cavities. Please consult with your physician before taking any supplements.
