Many serious eye conditions do not become apparent to the patient until they are in advanced stages that are difficult - or impossible - to treat. Regular eye exams can detect any possible complications in their earliest and most treatable stages. It is recommended that patients between the ages of 20 and 30 undergo an exam every two years. In your mid-30s, you should undergo annual exams. Patients with diabetes and other conditions may need to undergo more frequent exams.
