Herbal Chinese Medicine also has an ancient history as a very effective modality for restoring and maintaining health. Many issues stem from a deficiency, excess or stagnation of energy. While acupuncture works very well to open up pathways of communication, the herbal formulas work within to reinstate a healthier internal environment and better quality of life. Chinese herbs have many different properties. They can be hot, cold, warm, cool or neutral. They have different flavors; sweet, salty, pungent, bitter, sour and bland. Herbs each have their own unique way of promoting an action in the body. Depending on the nature of the problem, herbs are combined to tonify a deficiency, reduce an excess, or move stagnation in the organ that may not be functioning properly. This process has been used for thousands of year in China with very successful results. Herbal medicine is used for many problems in the body including digestive, headaches, pain, inflammation, menstrual problems, autoimmune issues, migraine, insomnia and many others. Many people have asked me about the history of herbal medicine. Scholars from ancient Chinese dynasties developed this medicine over thousands of years. Currently the herbs are grown throughout the country. They are planted and harvested at different times of the year according to the desired properties of the plants. In ancient times, they would actually go out and collect the herbs, be it twigs leaves, roots, bugs, or animals. Then they prepared the tea, tasted the flavors and observed the applied results.

An integrative approach employs a “bird’s eye view” of the body rather than focusing on symptoms or a solitary system or organ. Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine

Classical Herbs and Acupuncture's original mission was to rehab patients after injury or surgical procedures. Massage therapy and acupuncture were used to assist the healing process. With continued training in the Chinese medical arts, the ancient practice of classical herbal medicine was incorporated into the practice.
