Vision screenings are part of your child’s ocular health, but should not be used as a substitute for a comprehensive ocular health evaluation. Although a child may see 20/20, the eye muscles in children are very strong and may hide a prescription. A dilated eye exam is recommended for children starting at 3 months to rule out eye conditions such as tumors, strabismus (eye turn), and amblyopia (lazy eye). In addition, the dilation will relax the eye muscles and allow your eye care professional to assess if a glasses prescription is needed. You DO NOT need vision insurance!
