The first function in human resources is referred to as “employment”. This is the total process of acquiring employees from start to finish. The modern term for this is “talent acquisition”. There are multiple steps to this process.
The first step is analyzing the requirements of the job. Next is evaluating the job to determine the appropriate salary range. Then creating the job description or updating an existing one. Now the tools are in place to start recruiting.
The recruitment process is for the purpose of attracting a pool of applicants to be interested in the job opening. This is true if you are recruiting for the armed forces or a sports team. The recruiter works closely with the CEO or other management leader in the process. In coordination, the recruiter sources, screens, assesses, selects, hires and onboards the new hires. If you have heard the term “headhunter”, that is a slang term for a recruiter!
