ARTANGO: A CHICAGO DESTINATION FOR ARGENTINE TANGO AND SOUTH AMERICAN FARE
Artango has been Chicago’s venue of choice for tango social dancing for many years. Lessons for the curious beginner to the advanced aficionado are sure to satisfy the Windy City’s craving for this passionate Argentine dance form.
Artango has since been expanding and transforming. The sensory experience does not stop there. In late 2013, Artango invited guests further in the journey of sights and experience via another passion: the palette. One of the owners, Maria has always dreamed of combining her passions of tango and fine cuisine since her studies at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts. The result? Artango Bistro. South American fare with fresh ingredients and a twist: innovative dishes without compromising the provocative flavors of Latin roots.
Executive Chef Isaak Reyes, formerly at Bistrot Margot on Wells Street, joined the team in this adventure of flavors. Unique ingredients include Argentine, Venezuelan and Peruvian classics like aji amarillo, rocoto peppers, quinoa, mango and guava. The menu is sure to satisfy foodies of all types, with popular dishes including varieties of Argentine steak, ceviche, causas, empanadas, arepas, duck confit, homemade gnocchi with lamb, and paella.
Those who are looking for a new experience combining dancing and dining can enjoy now find both at one location. The dining experience combines sounds, sights and flavors: a unique journey south.
Artango Bistro is also a wonderful option for a unique and intimate wedding ceremony, reception or private event. The art and excellent food make for an elegant event with a twist. The loft space at Artango Bistro is a creative alternative to standard banquet facilities. Multiple packages are available that include cocktail receptions, family-style dinners, and plated dinners.
The venue is located on the charming historical Ravenswood Avenue on the Northside of Chicago. Artango’s home is inside the Deagan building, dating from around 1912. The Deagan company manufactured chimes and orchestral instruments all over the world. The vibrations have not stopped… Through music, dance, cuisine and art, the chimes are still resonating in Ravenswood. The Artango space is gracious yet edgy, modern yet rustic. The original interior design features experimental artwork and installations by one of the owners, Sebastian Casanova. On the walls you will find dreamy, cinematic photographs by Sean Williams including prints from the “Light Miners” series.
