Visual Scavenger Hunt Art Walk and Tour
Architecture, Guided Tours, Walking Tour
Chicago Detours partners with Azimuth Projects for a fun interpretation of a Logan Square art walk as an official event for Chicago Artists Month 2014. This walking tour of the vernacular landscape in Logan Square is combined with an art walk to neighborhood artists’ studios and galleries. Plus guests will play a kind of visual scavenger hunt with original art prizes and have an opportunity to experience African hair braiding. Tour begins at Autotelic Studios on Sunday, October 26th, 2014, 11am-1pm. Reservations required at www.chicagodetours.com.
This special, one-time only Logan Square Art Walk and Scavenger Hunt will include an experimental ice cream social, a mobile art gallery with limited edition artist bumper stickers, and a fiber installation with hair braiding experience.
In between gallery stops on the Logan Square Art Walk, tour guide Amanda will lead guests in a sort of visual scavenger hunt. It’s not exactly a scavenger hunt but that’s the best word we could find for it! Each guest will have a sheet with a series of abstracted and close-up photos of features of the landscape. As the group walks, the first to notice the object will win an awesome prize of a small, original artwork from one of the artists at the walk’s featured art galleries.
The lovely people who join us on this art walk/walking tour get to hear ideas, writings, and stories connected to the identified architectural or natural objects on the hunt. These objects, which range from the habitat of rats to gates and fences, are all overlooked features of the everyday built environment that can be read as cultural artifacts.
Do not be surprised to experience radio jams, a sonic installation, and tastings of West-African style rice.
