Learn to put together a personal, non-fiction story for live performance. This class will give you the confidence to envision, prepare and perform your story. -Envision your story. Choose a moment in your life to explore. It could a comic story or a serious one. -Pull together the details of your story and commit it to paper. -Write down all the specifics in a spider map. -Structure your story into a beginning, middle and end. -Finalize your piece, lock in your running order and fill in all the details. -Read it aloud and then edit it. Cut the fat and rehearse the piece at home or at open mics. -Perform your piece, along with your classmates at a special show at Under the Gun Theater. Instructor: Monte LaMonte is a Chicago native who began his acting career in High School. Since then he’s been in movies, TV shows, morning radio, and tons of live theater and comedy. As part of the storytelling community, he has become a prolific producer of live lit shows in Chicago and nationally including: I Sh!t You Not: Stories Not for the Faint of Fart, Eat This: Stories for the Love of Food, and Shoot ‘Em Up (the evolution of a story, from stage to script to film). He also taught improv at Lincoln Park High School and directed two shows for the Anti-Defamation League. Monte is excited to share his passion and experience with anyone interested in the art of storytelling, from beginner to advanced.
