The State of Indiana has strict regulations in place when a well no longer serves its intended purpose. If the well is abandoned or sealed, the State outlines specific process and procedures that must be followed to prevent contaminants from entering water sources, such as aquifers, streams, etc. Furthermore, Indiana code also requires that certain wells be abandoned and sealed, such as;
1. Hand dug wells
2. Wells that do not meet regulatory minimum production requirements
3. Well borings that do not produce sufficient water quantity
