Between 9% and 15% of Americans may avoid the dentist out of fear according to the Cleveland Clinic, a non-profit academic medical clinic. Being too fearful to go to the dentist's office can mean that you’re not getting the treatment that you need to stay healthy. If you have fear or anxiety about going to the dentist, we understand and we’re here to help! One way that we can help is through conscious sedation.
At Monon Family Dental, we are skilled at administering safe and effective conscious sedation to our patients. If you are interested in overcoming your fear through comfortable, gentle treatment, schedule an appointment with us today at 317-846-6188 to speak with us about your conscious sedation options.
What Is Conscious Sedation?
This type of sedation combines sedatives and pain-blocking medication. The combination results in an altered state of consciousness in which you should not feel any pain during your procedure. It also allows your dentist to communicate with you during your procedure. This way, you can let our dental team know if you feel any discomfort so that they can make the necessary adjustments to keep you comfortable. Conscious sedation is meant to be used during relatively quick, minor surgeries and procedures.
Our team is specially trained to guide you through your procedure under conscious sedation. They will closely monitor your breathing, heart rate, level of alertness, blood pressure, and other factors while you are under sedation. After the procedure, they will continue to monitor you for a short period of time. This is done to ensure maximum safety throughout the process.
With conscious sedation, your necessary dental procedure can be done without fear and without discomfort.
After your procedure, your Monon Family Dental dentist will provide you with comprehensive care instructions to take home, and will tell you what to expect. You should recover quickly from the effects of conscious sedation and soon be able to resume your regular activities. Be sure to arrange for a friend or family member to drive you to and from your appointment.
