The gastric sleeve is a newer procedure than the gastric bypass or gastric band. About 80% of the stomach is removed, leaving behind a long, narrow “sleeve” of stomach. This is an outstanding procedure with results that rival that of the gastric bypass and a safety record that approaches the gastric band. When performing this procedure, Dr. Bledsoe removes approximately 80% of the stomach. This changes the shape from a large sack-like organ into a long, narrow “sleeve.”

Gastric Banding

Gastric banding, also known by its trade names Lap Band and Realize Band, is the least invasive form of bariatric surgery.

Gastric Bypass Surgery

Gastric bypass is incredibly effective because it combines restriction – by creating a smaller stomach pouch – with malabsorption of calories – by rerouting and bypassing part of the small intestine.
