Drs. Smith and Domingue
At our Acadiana dental office, we use lasers to treat periodontal disease, prepare teeth for fillings, and treat soft tissue problems like fibromas and lesions. Lasers quickly and effectively destroy bacteria for efficient and comfortable sterilization while leaving healthy tissue intact.
Periodontal Disease Therapy – Deep cleanings are a common treatment used to treat periodontal disease. Using a dental laser, we are able to quickly eradicate affected gum tissue, kill bacteria, and smooth out the surface of the tooth’s root to prevent future infection. The procedure is faster and more comfortable than when performed with traditional tools, a feature that our patients appreciate.
Tooth Preparation – To prepare a tooth for a filling, the decayed portion of the tooth must be removed. In the past, this usually meant that a portion of healthy tooth had to go along with it because the instruments simply didn’t allow for perfect precision. Thanks to dental lasers, we can remove only the decayed portion of the tooth, which allows for more conservative care, more structural integrity, and less filling material. In some cases, if we catch the cavity early enough, we may be able to simply remove the decayed portion of the tooth with no need for filling at all.
Soft Tissue Procedures – Growths, fibers, lesions, and infections, while not common, are not rare either. Dental lasers allow us to treat these problems without the need for surgery. The laser quickly and comfortably removes fibrous or infected tissue while leaving healthy tissue intact. Also, the risks of discomfort and bleeding are significantly lessened, and you are likely to experience a much shorter and more comfortable healing time.
