Gentle, Non-Invasive Dental Lasers
Dental lasers work using the same principle as those used to perform medical procedures. Using a small handheld tool, we can painlessly remove tissue in the mouth by directing a focused beam of light at the area to be treated. Since we can target the area precisely, surrounding tissue is not affected.
Using laser dentistry, we can perform procedures that result in less swelling, bleeding, and post-procedure discomfort. In most cases, you will be able to go about your normal routine immediately after leaving our Bayport dental office.
What Problems Do Dental Lasers Treat?
Soft tissue dental lasers can be used to perform a number of procedures:
Preparing for Dental Crowns: When we place a dental crown, it may be necessary to use the dental laser to gently reshape the gum line to create a perfect fit and reduce the risk of developing gum disease.
Gum Contouring: Dental lasers can be used to carefully contour uneven gum tissue around the teeth, creating a natural, uniform appearance.
Removal of Cold Sores: Dental lasers can provide immediate, comfortable relief for cold sores or canker sores that develop inside your cheek, on your tongue, or on the roof of your mouth.
Treatment for Periodontal Disease: After a deep periodontal cleaning, we may use the dental laser to remove infected tissue lining the gum pockets.
Comfortable Digital Impressions
If you’ve had a crown or bridge placed in the past, you know that the process always starts with the dentist taking an impression of your teeth. You probably remember a bulky metal tray filled with gooey, sticky, pink paste.
You had to bite down on the plate and wait uncomfortably until the paste set and could be pried away from your teeth. If the results were not accurate, the whole process had to be repeated.
Digital impressions at our Bayport dental office completely do away with the need for this uncomfortable process. We’ll prepare your teeth as we normally would to place a crown or bridge.
Next, we use a handheld scanning device to take 3-D pictures of your teeth. While we’re scanning your teeth, we can see the image on a computer screen and make adjustments to get precise results quickly and with less discomfort for you.
The image is then sent electronically to a dental lab where your finished crown or bridge will be created. Digital impressions allow us to create a restoration that is highly detailed, accurate, and fits perfectly.
