Laser Hair Reduction Pre-Treatment Instructions
No waxing or tweezing for 3-4 weeks prior to treatment. Clip or shave treatment area 48 hours prior to laser treatment.
Stop using alpha hydroxyl acids, retin-A and Renova 3 days prior to treatment on the face. We cannot safely treat tan unnaturally tan skin. (Tanning beds, sun exposure or self tanning creams and lotions ) will alter reads on the correct skin color. The lighter the skin in contrast to dark hair color is the ideal. Permanent hair reduction works only on hair with pigment. Red, gray and white hair will not respond to laser treatment.
If you have a history of cold sores or genetial herpes, taking an anti-viral medication 2 weeks prior will help to prevent an out-break.
Laer Hair reduction Post-Care Instructions
Immediately after treatment, redness and bumps are normal at treatment areas, which may last up to 2 hours after treatment. It is normal for the treated area to feel like a sunburn.
Cold compresses will help subside those symptoms. Aloe vera is a great soother for heated skin.
Darker skinned patients may experience abit more discomfort. The reason is: Lasers are attracted to dark pigment, whether it be the hair or skin pigment. The settings on the laser are set to the lowest settings for this skin type for the safety of the patient. After one treatment the technician can gauge whether the settings are effective to continue treating the patient with this skin type. Raising the settings is not always the safest option.
Avoid sun exposure, steam room, saunas, hot tubs and heavy exercising for 48 hours after treatment to avoid skin irritation. Hair depilatories and creams should not be used on the treated skin.
Remember that the skin is irritated after treatment and care should be given to the skin, not rubbing, but patting dry helps.
Anywhere from 5-15 days after treatment shedding of the treated hair. This may appear as new hair growth. This is not new hair, but dead hair pushing out with the next cycle of hair growth pushing its way out of the follicle. Using a washcloth you can help exfoliate the dead hair.
Hair regrowth happens at different rate for every individual and different for body parts. New hair is estimated to regrow at 6 weeks as an average. Treatment is repeated every 8 weeks.
