Kripalu Yoga (Beginner, Gentle, Moderate and Mixed)

We recommend that new students try a beginner or gentle class to learn the asanas (poses) and the proper alignment necessary to get the most from one's practice. At Rivertown, every student is given permission to adapt her practice as needed. Furthermore, we suggest that you let your teacher know of any injuries or limitations and always work with your body's intuition. Beginner Good for those new to yoga or returning after many years Detailed instruction of proper alignment for basic poses Introduction to pranayama (breathing techniques) Benefits include increased strength and flexibility, a release of tension and increased self awareness Open to experienced students who want to review basics or return to "beginner's mind" Gentle and Beginner's Mind Suitable for new and experienced students Uses gentle rhythmic movement and breath to release physical tension, ease the mind and open the heart Great for stress reduction or for anyone working with injury or physical limitations The experience is a more restful and rejuvenating practice All Levels Open to new and more advanced students Can include a wider variety of postures and pranayma (breathing techniques) Students are encouraged to participate at the level of their own comfort and ability Modifications are offered to invite a gentler or more vigorous practice Moderate Classes require at least six months' experience with postures, pranayama and meditation Can include more advanced postures and posture flows or longer holdings of an asana Deeper practices of meditation, dharma teachings and yogic philosophy explored
