My Asus Laptop Does Not Charge or Power On Even When Plugged Into the AC Adapter

A laptop is designed to be mobile.Just like my Asus G46 The components are tightly integrated together and designed to use a minimal amount of power and produce as little heat as possible. In enhancing the portability of the laptop, the durability suffers. The laptop must face a greater number of threats and dangers than what a desktop is exposed too. When a laptop will no longer power on and doesn't seem to be charging there are a number of components that can be at fault.
The first thing to check if it seems like the Asus laptop is not charging or powering on is whether the laptop is actually receiving power in the first place. Start with the outlet; though it may be a no brainer, many seemingly difficult computer problems have a simple solution. Plug a working lamp or other device known to be functional into the outlet to test. Alternately move the laptop plug to a different outlet and test again. Most laptop AC adapters have a small green LED light on the "brick" when the unit is receiving power. If the light is off and the outlet works, than the adapter is bad.
A fault point for many laptops is in the DC jack, where the power cable plugs into the laptop. Through repeated usage and stress, this jack may work itself free from the motherboard and no longer provide power to the computer. Plug the laptop into the wall and wiggle the jack gently to see if the power indicator lights on the laptop flicker. If the lights flicker, there is an issue with the jack. A jack may be so damaged, however, that it won't produce a flicker even while being wiggled.
Motherboard and Battery
Less common but still a possibility is the motherboard or Asus battery going bad. A bad battery can sometimes prevent the laptop from powering on or charging. Remove the battery and plug the laptop back into the wall to see if the battery was causing the problem. If the motherboard has gone bad, possibly due to a severe electrical surge, it will cause the laptop to not boot or charge. There is no definitive home test for a bad motherboard other than the process of elimination. If no other components can be isolated as the problem, then the issue is likely to be the motherboard.
In all cases, save for a bad power outlet, a component on the Asus G46 laptop adapter has failed and will need to be replaced. AC adapters are easy to replace, and many times a compatible universal adapter can be used in place of the bad one. The DC jack and motherboard will need to be repaired professionally, either by a certified laptop technician or the manufacturer.
