Laser Peening is the fatigue failure solution for the 21st century. Laser peening is a metal enhancement process that prevents failures from fatigue and other surface deterioration effects by preventing crack initiation or propagation. LP is the leading technology for imparting deep compressive residual stresses with precise process control and the ability to access hard to read features on critical parts. Improvements in fatigue life and fatigue strength are proportional to the magnitude and depth of induces compressive residual stresses remaining in a component. Laser Peening typically produces compressive residual stresses 1-2 mm deep from the surface and has reached as deep as 8 mm, typically greater than 10 times deeper than those of conventional surface enhancements.
