Temporomandibular joint disorder, often abbreviated to TMJ, is a serious condition involving the joint that meets at your lower jaw and skull. The joint of TMJ sufferers becomes inflamed and painful. Many TMJ sufferers experience symptoms such as clicking, popping, and even locking in the joint.
TMJ can develop for a variety of reasons. Some of the most common are bruxism (clenching and grinding of your teeth), arthritis in the joint, or trauma to the joint.
Dr. Rupert offers therapy for TMJ to relieve its symptoms by reducing pressure on the joint. A splint, which can be worn at night, helps to stop inflammation in the joint, allowing it to move comfortably and easily.
If you’ve been suffering from TMJ pain, please call our office today to schedule an evaluation with Dr. Rupert.
