RMA of Philadelphia and Central Pennsylvania are pleased to offer preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) testing, which screens an embryo for certain genetic disorders. A single cell from an embryo created through in vitro fertilization (IVF) can be tested for a number of common genetic abnormalities, such as Down’s syndrome, cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy. PGD may be considered for couples with a known history of severe inherited genetic disease, ensuring that only normal embryos are transferred. In addition, women with multiple prior miscarriages, advanced maternal age and for women with many prior unsuccessful IVF cycles may benefit from PGD.
