Why do concrete floors crack? Concrete consists mostly of cement, sand, gravel and water; overtime, the water will evaporate, causing the remaining ingredients to cure into a hard slab. After the substances have cured, the concrete will shrink slightly, resulting in hairline cracks. These cracks usually don’t threaten the strength of your building’s structure; however, they do create an entry point for insects, groundwater, and radon gas, not to mention it makes your floors look old and unprofessional to your clients or customers! If you are noticing recurring cracks in your floors please call us immediately, these cracks can indicate a more serious structural problem. Some of the materials we will be using when fixing the cracks in your concrete floor include: Concrete Crack Seal/Concrete Repair Concrete & Asphalt Cleaner Wire Brush Caulking Gun Scrub Brush Chisel Hammer The first thing we will do is widen the crack by about a quarter of an inch to break away any deteriorating concrete, and we will remove any loose material with our scrub brush. We will then take the caulking gun, running it down the crack to force in a bead of concrete caulk deep into the crack. We will then pour in sealant along the crack of the floor; this will allow the sealant to settle and dry properly. After the sealant has been properly poured in, we will immediately remove excess sealant. We have been performing these types of jobs since 1985, making us one of the most experienced floor repair companies in New England.
