Recently written about in The Austin-American Statesman, The Austin Winery is an urban winery and tasting room opening in the Texas capital, roughly ten minutes northeast of downtown. Started by 25 year old UT graduate Ross McLauchlan, the boutique urban winery aims to produce quality California and Texas wines in the Austin urban area. Unique to their urban winery model, they source their grapes from family-owned vineyards in premium AVA’s (American Viticulture Areas), most of which are in California. This means that they carefully select specific regions known for the highest quality of a particular varietal. McLauchlan and VP, Winemaker Cooper Anderson rely on close, personal partnerships with family-owned vineyards and vintners to source grapes from highly sought after and otherwise unattainable vineyards. These close relationships allow for increased control of vineyard management, something that is often lacking in urban wineries. In terms of methodology, they emphasize minimalist winemaking techniques to showcase terrior driven wines, reflecting the unique climate and growing conditions of each region. Read more about us:
