Dental implants are used to replace teeth that are missing or that have been removed after being damaged. Implants can be quite small, replacing only a single tooth, or more extensive, replacing several teeth at once. The entire procedure takes several months and rejuvenates a patient’s smile.
Dental Implants Procedure
There are three steps involved in the dental implants procedure. If a patient is a good candidate for dental implants, the dentist will begin the procedure by placing the lower portion of the implant surgically into the patient’s jaw. The implant is left alone for 3 – 6 months to allow new bone growth to anchor the implant firmly in place. In the second stage of the procedure the dentist attaches a post to the implant. This is left in place for another few months while the gum tissue recovers and reforms. And finally, a crown (artificial tooth) is created to fit on top of the post. The patient can then enjoy their new teeth.
Dental Implants Cost
Because implants are a more permanent solution to tooth loss compared to dentures, the dental implants cost is somewhat higher. However, the aesthetic appearance of implants and their permanent nature is preferred by many customers.
