Renowned imaging center shares information related to 3-D imaging and higher breast cancer detection rates.

Irving, TX, September 4, 2014 - PET/CT of Las Colinas, one of North Texas’ most comprehensive imaging centers, has recently released new statistics to its patients regarding the connection between 3-D imaging and a higher rate of breast cancer detection. These statistics, as gathered in a study conducted by the medical director of TOPS Comprehensive Breast Center in Houston along with his colleagues and released this past June in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), shows that the use of tomosynthesis, a 3-D imaging technique used to screen for breast cancer has resulted in more conclusive results of initial testing and an increase in the detection of breast cancer. The results of this study are not surprising to the principles at PET/CT of Las Colinas, where an investment in the most sophisticated technology has always been at the forefront of their business practices.

“3-D imaging has shown exceptional promise as the most effective method for detecting breast cancer,” says the spokesperson for PET/CT of Las Colinas. “We are proud to be able to offer this technology to our patients in our effort to help quickly and effectively diagnose breast cancer so that immediate treatment can be administered to help preserve quality of life and ultimately achieve the elimination of cancer.”

The study utilized data collected from 454,850 examinations from 13 centers through which researchers were able to examine the results of those patients who received only digital mammograms and those who received mammography along with tomosynthesis 3-D imaging. Not only did the use of 3-D imaging reduce recall rates (the need for patients to return for additional testing due to inconclusive results), it also increased the detection rate of breast cancer. This has shown 3-D imaging to be an inordinately important tool in the detection of breast cancer.

“ to our patients as we continue in our collective battle for more sophisticated and effective methods for diagnosing breast cancer. This type of technology is very exciting and has the ability to change lives.”
