Root Canal, Dental Surgery
Root canal treatments are also referred to as endodontic therapy and root canal therapy. Root canals become necessary when a cavity isn't treated in a timely manner. The cavity can become bad enough to reach all the way to the tooth pulp. Root canals may also become necessary if the tooth is damaged with extensive restorations or trauma. The tooth pulp can become infected, and that infection can spread through the tooth root and bone, causing an abscess. At this point, the tooth can no longer heal itself and must be treated.
