Plano, TX, October 12, 2015 – The Nicholson Clinic is pleased to announce it is now offering the ORBERA Managed Weight Loss System to its patients struggling with weight-related issues. The new procedure is a temporary measure that’s designed to provide people an alternative for shedding pounds in a safe and effective manner.
, was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Aug. 5. Nicholson Clinic’s founder, Dr. Nick Nicholson, was one of the first surgeons in the country trained and certified using this procedure.
“This is an excellent alternative for those who are overweight, but are not candidates for permanent procedures, such as a gastric bypass,” says Dr. Nicholson, lead surgeon at the North Texas-based Nicholson Clinic. “Unlike other procedures that target those who are 100 pounds or more overweight, this temporary measure helps those with a BMI of 27 to 32 lose weight in a healthy, safe manner.”
Someone who is 40 pounds overweight, for example, can lose about 38% percent of their excess weight in six months. Appetite suppression medication goes along with the treatment to help bring the total loss up to about 50% of excess weight loss. Abdominal wall reconstruction can also be used for further tightening and toning, if desired.
“You keep your curves, but achieve significant weight loss,” says Dr. Nicholson. “What’s even better for those who are concerned about permanent alteration during weight-loss surgery is that the procedure is completely reversible. In fact, after six months, the balloon is removed with patients generally maintaining about 35 percent of their weight lost after 18 months.”
The outpatient surgery has a one-week recovery period. It is a self-pay procedure at this time with most insurance companies not covering. The cost is $6,900.
