In the past, LASIK was able to correct basically the same refractive errors as glasses and contact lenses: myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. Modern LASIK technology, however, allows Dr. Hammond to customize each procedure so that he is able to address non-standard, highly unique flaws in the shape of the individual’s corneas. These flaws are called higher-order aberrations and can only be addressed through custom LASIK or PRK.
