Casselberry owes its beginnings to a Chicago-area man named Hibbard Casselberry. While visiting relatives in the 1920's, he bought a parcel of 10 acres on which he built a greenhouse for growing ferns. He later purchased 3,000 acres along what was then a new highway, and proceeded to develop a fernery. A part of this land was later converted into a housing development. Casselberry was officially incorporated as a town in 1940 and later as a city in 1965
