Through my website, I hope to break down the process of finding and obtaining child care so it is not so overwhelming. As well, as covering child care regulations and how they pertain to children ages 0-5 years. Additionally, you will learn how to monitor your child's current child care program to ensure that they continue to provide your child with the quality care you expect. Please, also follow along on Facebook to see articles and posts that I will share that provide relevant information about this age group. I love working with children and I am passionate about child welfare issues. While I was attending college I worked at a variety of child care programs in Michigan - a center, a faith based nursery, and a toddler lab through the University of Michigan. (Go Blue!) After I graduated from the University of Michigan with a Masters of Social Work, I started out as a family reunification caseworker in Washington, DC. I was drawn back to child care after my family moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia. I became a Child Care Licensing Inspector for the Commonwealth of Virginia. After moving back to the Washington, DC area many years later, I took a similar job as a Child Care Licensing Specialist with the State of Maryland. I left that job during the first year after I had my son. Now that he's entering preschool, I'm working on developing this website to get child care information out to parents. Working in the child care field in three different states, as both teacher and inspector, in facilities varying in a wide range of quality has given me a depth and breadth of knowledge and experience. Over my career, an issue that I have recurrently observed is that there is no great effort to inform parents how well their child care provider is operating. When problems arise, often parents are the last to know and even then only if the facility cannot resolve the issue. While I no longer work as a state child care inspector, as a mother of a three year old boy, I've used all the knowledge and experience that I've acquired to make an informed decision about my son's child care. I will show you how to find out the information you need to know to make informed child care decisions for your children.
