  Dr. Bendewald specializes in advanced laparoscopic gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery. He obtained his undergraduate degree from St. John's University in Minnesota and earned his medical degree from the University of South Dakota. He completed his residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and his fellowship at Indiana University in Indianapolis.While Dr. Bendewald's practice focuses in bariatric surgery, he is also experienced in performing surgeries related to a wide variety of conditions - gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), paraesophageal (hiatal) hernia, diaphragmatic hernia, inguinal and ventral/incisional hernia, achalasia, gallbladder disease and diverticulitis. He also performs enterra and gastroparesis along with surgeries to treat both colon and gastric cancer.In surveys conducted by Madison Magazine, Dr. Bendewalds's peers have consistently named him as one of Madison's Top Doctors for bariatric surgery.Dr. Bendewald is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the Wisconsin Surgical Society, the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons, the Society for Surgeons of the Alimentary Tract and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).In his free time, Dr. Bendewald volunteers at the Dean Foundation Benevolent Specialist Project Free Clinic. He also enjoys spending time at home with his wife and taking their mixed Labrador/Collie dog for walks.

  Dr. Bellissimo is board certified in pediatric medicine. She obtained both her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI. She also completed her internship and residency at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.Dr. Bellissimos areas of specialization within pediatrics include newborn care, adolescent medicine, travel medicine, care for Spanish-speaking patients, and treating patients from other countries. She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.In her time outside of the office, Dr. Bellissimo enjoys traveling, brushing up on her Spanish speaking, doing Zumba, playing tennis, and attending church functions.

  John McKenna is a board certified family medicine physician. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health-Madison. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics - SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital-Madison. McKenna's practice is focused on integrative medicine, tobacco cessation, and women's health. Dr. McKenna served in the military at the U.S. Naval Nuclear Training Schools in South Carolina and New York and on the U.S. Naval nuclear submarine USS Minneapolis-St. Paul. In his free time, Dr. McKenna enjoys spending time with his family, bicycling, and gardening

  Melanie Shales is a certified physician assistant in family medicine. She obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin in La Crosse, WI and earned her master's in physician assistant studies from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine in North Chicago, IL.Shales is board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Wisconsin Academy of Physician Assistants.In her free time, Melanie enjoys cooking, reading, hiking, biking, and camping.
